At Mark Oliphant College, we strive to encourage the learning success of our students and attendance is a significant contributor to students’ success. Our aim is to support families to improve their child’s attendance at school.
Excellent attendance maximises the learning opportunities and parents/carers have a vital role in promoting positive attitudes to good attendance. Evidence shows that students who attend school regularly make better progress both academically and socially with their peers, which promotes their positive well-being.
Everyday counts, as regular attendance helps students
- increase engagement with school
- progress their learning
- develop a sense of belonging
- develop and maintain friendships
- develop knowledge, skills, and capabilities to thrive and live a fulfilled life of their choosing
Absences are reviewed daily, and meetings with parents of children identified as persistent absentees will be conducted to help identify any issues and support the family improve attendance.
Please contact me at the school if you require any support with attendance, working within the Student Wellbeing team to provide attendance support for children, young people and families.
When there is an absence for which no reason has been provided, I will make daily contact with the parents and carers to follow up all unauthorised absences.
Where the school is unable to contact a parent by telephone, a notification on EdSmart via Email will be sent with a link to click which opens a secure web page version of the form for you to complete and submit. These links can be accessed on your phone, tablet or computer at your convenience.
All of the data you submit in the forms is held in a secure database only accessible to authorise school staff and EdSmart personnel.
