Inclusive Education

Students with Disabilities

Mark Oliphant College has two dedicated Secondary Special Options classes that are a place of learning and development for up to 24 students with disabilities. It is situated on the mainstream campus in our Martirrinthi building which is a Kaurna word for “we embrace each other”.

Our focus is to provide a nurturing, supportive and inclusive learning environment for our students and their families. We value the role of our families as integral partners in our students’ learning journey as they develop independence and prepare for post school life. Individualised programs have a strong focus on the development of the general capabilities, specifically literacy, numeracy and personal and social. Learning goals are developed in partnership with families through the One Plan.

Please note that entry and eligibility into the Special Classes at Mark Oliphant College is determined externally through the Education Pathways Placement process.

In addition to our Special Options classes Mark Oliphant College also provides adjustments and interventions to students with disabilities in a mainstream environment through using a Multitiered System of Supports. This includes teachers using universal learning design to design out barriers to learning, small group interventions in literacy,

The college has 2 dedicated Inclusion Leaders, one in Primary Years and one in Secondary Years to support staff, children and families as well as an Assistant Principal to oversee inclusion across the college.
