Student Representative Council | Mark Oliphant College

At Mark Oliphant College, we value the voice of our student body and recognise the importance that students have real opportunities to be involved in the decisions relating to the growth and development of the school, its policies and pedagogies.

The role of Student Representative Council at Mark Oliphant College is to promote the interests of the school through the active participation of the students’ involvement in the decision making of the day to day functions of the school community working with peers, staff, management and Governing Council.

At Mark Oliphant College, we have a five-pronged approach to our Student Voice:

To promote and incorporate the School Values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety in every aspect of college life, through leadership, role modeling and mentorship. To promote and incorporate the School Rules of; ‘I am safe, I am a learner and I am respectful’ and get along with others.
To be strong advocates for student representation in the Restorative Practice approach to Mark Oliphant College’s behaviour management process.
To inform, develop, support and promote positive relationships between students and teachers. Every student spends at least 12 years studying and learning with teachers. This means that the formal years of their lives are spent with their parents and teachers. Therefore how the student and teachers interact with each other has a major impact on the students’ academic performance. The student / teacher relationships also pave the way for future opportunities and capabilities.
To be active participants in the decision-making process of all aspects of the learning environment inclusive of the Australian Curriculum and SACE through classroom practices, integrated learning, extra-curricular activities, subject selections and subjects offered at Mark Oliphant College.
To have strong representation from 7 -12 on specific focus teams that are beneficial to the school community through solution outcomes.

The College SRC consists of two College Captains and TWO Vice-CaptainS.

There are two representatives from Years 7 – 12 supported by two staff members.
At any point, students are welcomed to raise any issues or ideas through their SRC.
SRC manages a range of activities including hosting assemblies, fundraising events, and leadership conferences.

Leohans Icarro - Head Captain

Hey every Leohans Icarro, Head Captain one, my name is Leohans Icarro, and I am proud to be one of the College Captains. I enjoy going to the gym, listening to music, and fashion. These interests have helped me stay motivated, disciplined, and connected with others both inside and outside of school.

Throughout my time at school, I have been involved in the Student Representative Council, where I worked with other students to represent student voices and contribute to positive change. I was also part of the Generation of Change, which focused on bringing different cultures together and strengthening our sense of community. In addition, I have had the opportunity to represent the school at events such as careers and STEM excursions and sports carnivals, which allowed me to engage with the wider school community and develop my leadership skills.

Being a College Captain means making sure every student feels included, supported, and valued. I want to be someone my peers can approach for support while also setting a positive example for others. In this role, I hope to promote our school’s core values of respect, belonging, kindness, and responsibility, and help create an environment where everyone feels proud to be part of the school community.

Emmo Mathers - Head Captain

Hi, I’m Emmo Mather, and I’m truly honoured to be one of your Head Captains for 2026. In my free time, I find peace in crafts, cozy games, and music, and you’ll often find me spending time with friends or playing with my two cats.

During my time at Mark Oliphant College, I’ve worked closely with SRC, which has helped me build the confidence and skills I need to be an effective leader.This year, I aim to bring positive change to our community by prioritising student voice.

I am passionate about creating a fair and inclusive environment where every student feels confident sharing their ideas and concerns. I believe everyone deserves to be heard, and I want to help make that possible. With strong dedication to respect, kindness, belonging, and responsibility, I strive to lead by example.

I want to represent those who may feel unsure about speaking up and ensure their voices are valued within our school. Being a school captain is a true commitment. It means encouraging students to take ownership of their decisions, fostering teamwork, and creating a supportive environment for everyone. It also means being approachable, offering guidance, and helping others make the most of their time at MOC.

I hope that in 2026, we can work together to inspire one another and build a positive, supportive community.

Fidel Owuor - Vice Captain

Fidel Owuor, Vice Captain Greetings everyone, my name is Fidel Owuor and I am grateful to serve as one of your 2026 School Vice Captains. During my time as Vice-Captain, I am deeply passionate about representing each student’s voice and creating a safe and inclusive environment that all Mark Oliphant students can feel empowered and supported to succeed.

I will ensure to represent and uphold our school values of being safe, respectful, and responsible within our community. As vice-captain, I will not only represent you, but I will actively listen, support and collaborate with students to improve everyone’s experience at our school. Our multiculturalism and our capacity to unite and celebrate the differences that make us special are our greatest strength as a school.

Therefore, one of my main goals is to introduce useful practical changes that enhance daily student life, whether it be through initiatives that promote students’ wellbeing, increased leadership opportunities, or improved communication between students and staff. I want to make sure that students feel comfortable voicing their opinions and that their concerns are not just acknowledged but also addressed.

I want to contribute to the development of an educational environment where students feel safe, inspired, comfortable, motivated and involved in shaping their experiences.

Zoe Ljubic - Vice Captain

Zoe Ljubic, Vice Captain Hello staff, students, and members of the community. My name is Zoe Ljubic and I am honoured to be one of the Mark Oliphant College Vice College Captains for 2026.

Throughout my time as a College Captain thus far, I have connected with students and teachers both inside and out of the Student Representative Council (SRC), to encourage open communication and foster a positive learning environment for all. I intend to bring positive change to our school by making students feel seen, and listened to, and I am honoured to be a part of the voice that speaks on behalf of my peers.

I aim to bring our college community together by involving students in decisions made at Mark Oliphant College, by promoting our school values – respect, kindness, belonging and responsibility. I will lead by example, embodying these key values, to action as many student-led ideas as possible, by encouraging students to speak out.

Being a College Captain is more than just something you do in high school, it is a responsibility you are given to encourage students to take control of their academic journey, own their choices and teach others how to work collaboratively. I intend to make myself available to anyone in need for any and all reasons, whether that be as a tutor, to give friendly advice, or to raise ideas in meetings, I will be as open to the student body as possible, to help our community thrive.

As a role model to the student community, it is my privilege to be the bridge of communication between teachers and students, by using my own voice on their behalf in SRC meetings, attending governing council meetings, and maintaining open and honest communication with my teachers. I feel responsible to mentor younger students, teaching them how to make the most out of their school experience, by working together with others to encourage inclusivity and belonging in our college community.

I thank everyone for this wonderful opportunity to work alongside them this year, by inspiring students to work hard to reach every goal, believe in themselves regardless of any hurdles that appear on the way, and make the most out of their time at Mark Oliphant College.
